MY CHILD IS BITING PEOPLE!

MY CHILD IS BITING PEOPLE!

Biting children is a painful subject for parents and is interpreted as a behavioral disorder. However, the main reason for biting is due to lack of skill. One of the ways out for the child who does not know the way to express himself is to bite. But accepting that he uses these innocent bites against the people around him would of course not be the right approach. It is necessary to prevent him from making a habit of biting you, his caregiver, or friend.

Especially 2-3 year old children sometimes bite when they are excited or even happy. When a child who acts without thinking about the consequences bites another child, he is as confused and upset as the child in front of him.

Being the parent of a child who has a habit of biting can be embarrassing and upsetting, especially in familiar environments and if he bites every time, you can get into a more distressing situation. As the parent of a child who bites habitually or is a candidate for bite, it is not difficult at all. Here's what you need to do.

How should you help the bitten child?

When your child bites another person, take a firm stand without delay. Children this age need quick and clear feedback as they have a short attention span. He won't be able to understand vague phrases such as "Don't treat your friend like that, or what you're doing is not nice". For this reason, it will be effective for you to set your stance with soft determination at the starting point. With the profitability in your voice, you should warn him with decisive sentences such as "you can bite their sandwiches, but you should never bite people".

Biting him in response, as some parents do, won't work. This will have the opposite effect as it will cause him to teach that biting is acceptable and normal behavior for him. He will not understand why his parents are angry and will only feel a sense of fear from the situation. Your determined attitude will stop him from biting in time and he will give up this behavior.
