IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS IN BABY CARE

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS IN BABY CARE

To raise your baby in a healthy way—both mentally and physically—it's crucial to be very attentive. Parents must fulfill their responsibilities in baby care properly; otherwise, they may face consequences that are difficult to remedy later on.

Key Aspects of Baby Care:

Feeding:

Breast milk alone is sufficient for the first six months. After the sixth month, you can start introducing appropriate solid foods. Breastfeeding until the age of two is highly beneficial for your baby. Unless the mother has a health issue, this can be done without concern.

Burping:

It's necessary to help your baby release the air swallowed during feeding. You should burp your baby both during and after feeding; otherwise, the trapped air may cause discomfort and interfere with feeding. To burp your baby, place them over your shoulder, on your lap, or seated in your arms, then gently pat or rub their back.

Diaper Changing:

Changing your baby's diaper about 6–7 times a day is usually sufficient. Since newborns often poop more frequently, they should be checked more often in the early months. A clean diaper helps your baby stay comfortable and prevents diaper rash. Also, remember that cleaning differs between boys and girls.

Skin Care:

A baby’s skin is extremely delicate and thin, and improper care can lead to irritation, which may increase the risk of infection. In the days following birth, the skin may become dry, flaky, or peel. In such cases, use moisturizers, baby oil, or lotions that do not contain harmful chemicals. Clothing that comes into direct contact with the baby’s skin should be made from 100% cotton.

Bathing:

Bathing is a key part of baby care. It soothes the baby and supports better sleep. You can bathe your baby daily or every other day. Be sure to prepare everything in advance and dress your baby quickly to prevent chills. Giving a bath before feeding may help prevent vomiting. For babies who are fussy or have gas issues, bathing 1–2 hours before bedtime can promote more restful sleep. After bathing, drying the baby thoroughly is essential to prevent rashes and irritation.

Clothing:

Dress your baby according to the weather. Overdressing can cause overheating and discomfort, making the baby more vulnerable to catching a cold from even a mild breeze. To check if your baby is too hot or cold, feel their chest or back and adjust clothing accordingly. Choose clothing made from non-synthetic, breathable cotton suitable for the season.

Sleep:

Sleep patterns vary from baby to baby. In the early months, babies usually sleep 15–18 hours a day. As they grow, this gradually decreases, and a more regular sleep-wake pattern develops. Eventually, they may nap for 1–3 hours during the day and sleep for 3–6 hours at night. Laying your baby on their side while sleeping helps prevent choking in case of spit-up. Observe your baby to determine their natural sleep schedule. Create a sleep routine based on their internal biological rhythm, not just your preferred hours.
